Weather-wise it's such a lovely day.

Weather wise, it's such a lovely day, why don't we beat the birds down to ------------- Bay? Rain Cloud
Aaah! That's the way it used to be.
While in Britain the people are still used to being told (normally during a 40 day rainy period) that water shortages will be likely in spring - so wash your car now - we are simply not used to such alarmist headlines.
The S of France is a "warmish" area (ask my mate Chippie and Tinkerbelle - that's why they come here - not to see me as I had thought) and as such we are used to all sorts of problems, forest or heath fires caused by tourist cigarettes or bottles thrown out of the car windows etc. Firehair 2Fire Engine
All these problems make it practically impossible, for everyone/thing, even for the birds, to know where the hell they are going! This year, however, the situation is extreme.
An order has been passed (just 3 day's ago) that the burning of anything, in so-called open fires ( those fires made for burning leaves, burning vine trimmings, even burning sausaaages or chops or sardines etc., used by so many French for burning what they can't otherwise get rid of) are:
FORBIDDEN - VERBOTEN - INTERDIT.
Prisoner - it was herPolicewoman ! Now I'm going to need a Lawyer

Apparantly, and I can confirm the detail, we haven't had any rain, snow or other dampening effects since NOVEMBER of 2004.
This has no effect on water out of the tap etc., but does present a problem for the traditional burning of leaves etc. This summer it is possible therefore that the dried vine cuttings (known as serments de vigne) normally sold expensively to tourists for their BBQ's will be reduced in price!!
The sea is still there, a little bit less water, and a little more concentrated in salt, but who cares?
I do - because if it doesn't P--------------SS down shortly, my tomatoes will not be plantable!! Chippie, Tinkerbelle, WB, Mr's WB, Britbull, Mrs Britbull, Trojanhorse, and even Mr le Marquis will be deprived of a little pleasure! Nobody (or even fewer) will visit, and I'll be off into the corner to eat worms again!!
Motto for this holiday? Bring your own water!!
