2 December 2007
Here's a piece I "refound"! I forgot to publish it at the time, and it will probably do us good to think about "free" heating at this moment!
*********
The weather has its effect on many things. At the moment, it's responsible for events in Germany, events which touch Africa and elsewhere in the "3rd" or "developing world".
If the weather was normal, then it would be throwing it down and blowing a gale in Germany, on this the National German Day..... but it's not!
It's sunny, warm, just the weather for a long ramble in the German cornfields, in the shade of the Police water cannons, which are using around about the amount of annual consumption of water which is available to the Continent of Africa - EVERY DAY!
The "ramblers" are enjoying it, it cools them down when they are a little too warm after their rambling exertions.
I'm just waiting for the first pictures of poor policemen, naked as nature intended, taking a cooling shower in front of the ramblers, from their own water cannons.
I understand that (as in UK and parts of France) in Germany there is a "hosepipe ban"- I don't think there is such a ban in Africa, simply because they don't have too many hosepipes!

Of course, the Politicians involved are in any case pre-occupied with other matters, like starting off "World Cold War II" during the course of which, they will probably make appeals to the African people to "come over to our side and we'll help you much more in the future".
The latest pictures were informative, with a new French President trying to cheat by staying one step higher than allowed in the official photo! OK - he isn't the tallest of guys, but cheating? He was rapidly called to order by the Iron Frau, who showed him firmly where he was to stand! I didn't get the impression that he was too content!
So - whilst Africa is dying fast, the super-duper, efficiently inefficient and insufficient leaders of G8 (?) are taking time out to say "bye-bye" to Tony, who has made sure that Gordon isn't present!
Where exactly the sense is in creating a replica of the Berlin Wall, just elsewhere in Germany, evades me.
Why not just all go to some Island , preferable deserted, and guard the surrounding sea?
Maybe they are all afraid, these G8 wizzers, that everybody will forget them, and leave them on their desert island - the world may well be a better place!
