This Week at ACC

What- only in the USA this WORLD Heart day...? I've heard nothing at all about it in Europe...! This Week at ACC : "World Heart Day Sunday, Sept. 28, is World Heart Day. Take part by urging patients, friends and family to “Know Your Risk!” This year’s theme encourages patients to understand their cardiovascular risk factors and take preemptive action to change them. The ACC’s CardioSmart Web site, www.cardiosmart.org, offers patients and their families the ability to assess their risk using interactive tools and calculators. Users can calculate BMI, take a Heart Disease Risk Assessment, and watch instructional videos on HDL and LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and hypertension. World Heart Day is sponsored by the World Heart Federation and organizations in more than 100 countries. For more information, click here."

Browsers - problems- advantages

Image
As you can see from the article following this one, I'm having various problems with either Google/Firefox 2/Blogger or all of 'em together. Maybe it's only 'cos it's a Sunday, we'll see tomorrow (logically Monday!) While I'm waiting, I jumped on over to another Browser (I've got all the major ones installed - Google Chrome/IE7/Opera/Firefox3/Safari etc....). This article comes via "OPERA" and by God - is it fast.....! It loaded my two Blogsites (this one and http://vauvertvillage.blogspot.com) in under a minute each one, whilst FF3 and IE take an eternity - particularly today. The only problem is that I've got all my toolbars and spelling (for foreign languages, particularly the accents) tools, plus a multitude of other things - all on the Firefox 3 Browser...! BUT..... If YOU just want to browse or surf on the Internet, then I really can only advise you to try OPERA - It's free of course, it's simple to use,and IT'S FAST, FAST...

Just a little message...!

"Google" tell me that everything is "tickety boo"! "Send to" services, or "Blog this" (which I am now using)also - well: If "Google" say so - they also say this problem has been fixed - back in April of this year - but although it seems to work right now, it often doesn't, and the other option "Send to" NEVER works (at least not for the last 3 months or more!) This means that "send to Google mail" doesn't work either, which in turn means that I have to either import the article in question to Google Docs and publish from there or spend an hour "copying and pasting" in the hope that my readers can be informed and/or amused...! "GOOGLE" is great, it's true - when it works - and since it is almost always FREE, I feel bad about complaining, but....... Clever, clever, but not so clever...!

Can you beleive it......? Mensa is an organization whose members have an IQ of 140 or higher. A few years ago, there was a Mensa convention in San Francisco and several members lunched at a local cafe. While dining, they discovered that their salt shaker contained pepper and their pepper shaker was full of salt. How could they swap the contents of the bottles without spilling anything and using only the implements at hand? Clearly, this was a job for Mensa! The group debated and presented ideas and finally came up with a brilliant solution involving a napkin, a straw and an empty saucer. They called the waitress over to dazzle her with their solution. "Ma'am," they said, "we couldn't help but notice that the pepper shaker contains salt and the salt shaker..." "Oh," the waitress interrupted. "Sorry about that." S...

Just a reminder..!

Image
I've already mentioned this problem before, quite some time ago, but here's a reminder. If your PC seems sluggish, slow, crashes often, or Spam seems to be increased, it COULD be a rootkit. Easy to check - use the FREE AVG Anti Root kit scan (Google it) it only takes a few minutes, and follow the instructions. You can also go into "user Accounts" on start up (Control Panel > User Accounts) - this will tell you if there is someone out there using YOUR PC as a port. If you don't want to leave it on your PC - Delete it, and check regularly - they often automatically re-install themselves! 10+ things you should know about rootkits Malware-based rootkits fuel a multibillion dollar spyware industry by stealing individual and corporate financial information. If that weren't bad enough, rootkit-based botnets generate untold amounts of spam. Here's a look at what rootkits are and what to do about them .
