Where ARE the bugs.....?

Image
Bugs and virus are everywhere, they don't know borders or frontiers, we're talking here about the "virtual" but very real ones we find on Computers, Phones and other electronic items, The material ones are the same, of course, and we inject stuff from the Doctor at an alarming rate to try to deal with them! The same thing applies to the virtual type. We spend millions and millions every year - it's one of the largest and most profitable businesses' on the Internet - and strangely, we tend to buy them ONLINE, even those amongst us who refuse to buy online! Have a look here - Protection or not - Worldwide: The best protected are probably those that need it the most! In Europe, most of the "rogues" are Russina, Australian or American! Perhaps the scariest category of security threats is key loggers. As the name suggests, key loggers is tracking every activity on the computer and then storing and transmitting that information Viruses are th...

Ever had the problem..? Well try this!

Problems, problems....? I'm not too sure if this will work for Europe, there may well be a different Telephone number for European countries, but try it-if you've got unlimited calls International! Or you could even try looking on "Google Search" under you own search terms! Why pay twice....? (This tip came from "World Starts computer tips" at:   www.worldstart.com   ) *********** If you've ever reinstalled your operating system, or installed Windows from the same disk on another computer, you know that eventually you'll run out of activation licenses. This means, no more installs from your Windows disk! How is that right? I spent all this money on a product and I can only use it a certain number of times? What gives!? No fears, folks! You can just give Microsoft a little phone call and eek out another installation. Just call the Microsoft Windows Vista Consumer Product Activation Phone Number at: 1-866-740-1256 , and with little to no...

Better to know!

Image
I picked this up today, and I'm glad I did, otherwise I'd probably be cursing and swearing at my PC in the near future! I use USB keys a lot, so - if you do too, note this: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Autorun goes Bye Bye! Last week, Microsoft announced a pretty major change in security policy for windows XP, Vista and the upcoming Version 7 of their operating systems. Ever since the beginning, when you would plug in a device such as an external hard drive or flash drive, the "auto run" dialog box would appear. This box would many times offer you frequently used options for starting your device. Well, this is all going to change. Starting soon with XP and Vista, Microsoft will be disabling the auto ru...

Remember....?

This tip comes from: ************** www.worldstart.com ********** Copy & paste to your address bar to see their site. You can subscribe free of charge for various letters, and you can find many special offers for PC programmes and equipment. My only problem with the site is that it's American, and all the good offers are "Post Free" - but only to the US! You can order for Europe, but I can't give you any details on the delivery costs. For those of you who are lazy, I'll post the next article concerning the function keys when it arrives! Interesting, because one always forgets to use these shortcuts! Here are the basics of function keys F1 – F4. F1 - Typically pressing this brings up the help file for the program you're currently in. To test this, go ahead and left click on a blank area of your desktop, then press F1. The help file should spring to life, offering it's bounty of knowledge! F2 – This F-key is used ...

Browsers-Navigators and all the rest...!

Image
I've used all the Browsers/Navigators available on the Internet, and I'm now probably a little bit "confused"  I thought that for my own use and to clear my mind a little, an article about the subject might even be of use to others! So here it is! 1. Microsoft (Windows) "Internet Explorer" - Still full of bugs and too open on the Security side, even with the 7 Version or the 8 (in beta only) available. I try to use this Browser as little as possible, but my Internet Server is hooked! It's also far too orientated towards EVERYTHING being Microsoft or Windows based. For example - to look for and/or download Windows updates, I MUST use Internet Explorer! Other Browsers let me use whatever Browser I wish to update their programmes, but not Internet Explorer. 2. Mozilla "Firefox" - A much better Browser, lighter to install, quicker to use and open pages with. Has a multitude of possibilities - works so closely with Google, that I thought for a long...

Browsers - problems- advantages

Image
As you can see from the article following this one, I'm having various problems with either Google/Firefox 2/Blogger or all of 'em together. Maybe it's only 'cos it's a Sunday, we'll see tomorrow (logically Monday!) While I'm waiting, I jumped on over to another Browser (I've got all the major ones installed - Google Chrome/IE7/Opera/Firefox3/Safari etc....). This article comes via "OPERA" and by God - is it fast.....! It loaded my two Blogsites (this one and http://vauvertvillage.blogspot.com) in under a minute each one, whilst FF3 and IE take an eternity - particularly today. The only problem is that I've got all my toolbars and spelling (for foreign languages, particularly the accents) tools, plus a multitude of other things - all on the Firefox 3 Browser...! BUT..... If YOU just want to browse or surf on the Internet, then I really can only advise you to try OPERA - It's free of course, it's simple to use,and IT'S FAST, FAST...

Just a suggestion!

Image
Now hear this! For ages now, I've been suffering, like a lot of others, from PC Blues! On one of my PC's, things just didn't want to run right, from not loading pages or taking an age to do so, to even being unable to scroll with the mouse, just kept blocking! Before I got to the point of this I tried reformatting ,reinstalling (keeping my old settings) and just seemed to be getting nowhere! Since it was only happening on one of my 2 PC's, I figured that it couldn't be the Internet Provider (who is at fault for a lot of other things) but must come from a programme or setting on the particular PC in question. Since I've been hearing horror stories from many sides, over years, and all having something to do with AOL, I concentrated on that aspect, and I think I may have found something that I certainly wasn't aware of. Did you know that whilst using Windows, MSN automatically installs its own Browser called "MSN Explorer", whether you use it or not...

Taking care of things!

Image
(Yep-all his fault!) I was having a chat with my mate Chippie the other day, and it occured to me that a little piece about Computer care wouldn't be amiss! The suggestions are seriously meant, but it shouldn't be taken as too serious in other aspects! Taking care of things is something difficult to do, sometimes, but necessary all the same! Everybody seems to have a car nowadays, and do they take care of them? Everything is done (by oneself, if possible) to make sure you don't break down in the middle of nowhere. Of course you could do nothing, and end up with a vehicle as seen in the illustration above, but you don't, you wash it, clean it, polish it, change the oil and the cooling liquid etc...etc....If you don't know how to do it, you quickly find out (in view of Garage charges nowadays) and you caress the 4 or 2 or 3 wheeled thing! It generally repays you by taking you and the wife, wherever you wanted to go! Talking about wifey. You all take care of her, I pr...
