1st day back!

Image
All first days back are always difficult, this one particularly so, since I honestly don't know where to start! So much has happened in the last 3-4 months that (although I was asleep for at least half of the time) subject matter is too freely available, and all mixed up in my mind! Obviously I have already started with a little piece about "hospitals and those who work in them", which isn't finished, and will be continued over the weeks to come, and there is the other side of the coin, my side-that of the patients and the problems they have, and the amusing things that happen. That will take months to work over in my head, and should certain details seem to be mixed up, or should the time plan seem to be deranged, bear with me, that is because it is deranged, like me, at the time! I intend to break up the Health and Hospital accounts with little amusing articles, as and when I feel the urge! This is to give my brain a chance to slow down, and give yours the chance to

Tomorrow!

= Tomorrow is the 1st May - Labour Day - another one of those days on which nobody does anything. I thought that I'd better get on with it, if I am to have the same rights as others- to stay in bed on labour day! I also found something called the cinco de Mayo (5th of May) which would seem to have some importance down Mexico way, I don't know why, exactly, but the dancing girlies are always welcome on this site, just to wake up my mate Chippie! Have a nice Mayday, parading or protesting or whatever, but don't shout "Mayday" too loudly, you may have a torrent of willing emergency helpers descend on you to help you out! My Mayday/Labour day will be filled with lots of work on the Blogspot, for you lot out there! (Nice looking little lady, isn't she?)

Just a small Victory!

Never thought I'd see them! It's spring, it's 25C (all of a sudden), but a little bit cloud-covered, it's Easter Sunday, and I've eaten my roast lamb and new potatoes, asparagus fresh from the fields, and I've had a LITTLE victory, because it's an Easter Sunday which I doubted, many times, ever to see! No doubt life has many a nasty surprise in store for me, but for the moment I'm winning! When I returned after my first 2 weeks of heart treatment, I was rather surprised to find myself in my own little world, free to leave or to do what I pleased, with the obvious consequences. Just the fact of being able to NOT do things was a novelty. Seasons come, seasons go, so do we! I opened the kitchen window, and found that I was entitled to look at the end result of some bulb planting, many months ago. I had never counted on seeing these tulips, not really, but there they were, and there they still are, as I write!

Hospitals and those who work in them - Part I

Image
Hospitals and those who work in them. (Part I of my story!) From the moment you cross the threshold of a hospital, you enter a different, separate world. A world full of hope, despair, pain, calm, full of life and full of death. Almost like that other world outside, except that in this hospital world, the emphasis is on changing whatever situation is given, for something hopefully better. Reading an article in a local newspaper, recently, it seems that the Hospital CHU (Central Hospital University) at Nimes, where I spent some time, and where I shall be doing my “re-education” course in April, churns out as much garbage and uses as much energy as a “middle sized town”. This doesn’t surprise me, since there are some 4,500 employees and then the patients, who are more or less comfortably installed within the confines of this place. From the beginning one can see the whole palette of human behaviour, from employees who are “only there for the money” and those who feel “called” to be in th
