Where's the brass gone?

Image
In general, I am able to look at, hear and understand many languages, and many reports in those languages, and all over the world it appears that the same problems exist. No money, no Brass, busted, down and out. Everybody, even Businesses, Governments, Countries - absolutely everyone and absolutely everything! Mind blasting - like the picture above! After all, the amount of what is termed "real" wealth (ie Gold, silver, copper, diamonds etc., etc.,) has not been reduced. More and more of everything is being taken out of the Earth, more and more products are being sold, more and more profits are being made, but STILL everybody and everything is busted, no bread (sometimes quite literally). Where - may I politely ask - has all the damned stuff gone? Governments are taking more and more from the little boys and girls they are responsible for, but they're still busted! Is it a large sack with a hole in the bottom? Even then, it would simply fall through to go somewher

Bigger is better?

According to the Television this morning, there are problems regarding the UK Police and rape cases. They (the police) are not doing their job, apparantly, and are not supporting the plaintifs in such cases. I suppose it must be quite difficult, if a young lady like the one shown screams "RAPE!!!!" (I don't think she would but should one beleive her? )Maybe, maybe not, but as I understand it, the necessary laws are in place, and need only to be applied. I do wonder, however, what consideration is given to the alleged rapist when the whole thing turns out to be a complete hoax or attempted blackmail, as was recently the case with a well known UK football professional. Mud sticks, we all know that, and even I look at the footballer concerned in another light, although maybe a more sympathetic light than before. Will the Press be as headline mad to inform us of his complete innocence, or will it just disappear, as usual. As I understand it, the Home Office (well organised as

Sticks & Stones etc

Remember that old idiom? "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me"? How wrong that has proved itself! Nowadays, when asked, as often is, on application forms - "Profession" when you reply "Pensioner" you might as well insert "Busted-Poor-Poverty stricken" it all amounts to the same thing! Indeed, some authorities assume the word "Pensioner" to mean "A bum who scrounges upon Society"! It seems to me, frankly, just a little late to inform people of my age group, those older than myself, and even one generation or two, younger than myself, that they must start to put money aside for their future! Money aside from a Pension? Apart from Politicians themselves, who made all the empty promises of once-upon-a-time, or a member of the 10% of those who hold 90% of the world's riches, nobody is capable of "putting aside" anything! Of course, as I understand from recently released figures, the ag

Grüne Woche Berlin 2007

Image
One of the much looked forward to events in Western Berlin, when we lived there, was the "International Gruene Woche" (International Green Week). This was around the middle of January in each year, and was so looked forward to, at our epoch at least, because although we had EVERYTHING (and then some) in West Berlin, we were cut off from "normal" travel, by a corridor of some 80/100 kilometres, highly controlled by the East German and Russian Authorities. Of course, we could take the car, the train, the bus and the plane, but before we got anywhere, we had the controls to go through, time wasting and not very agreeable! The International Green Week, brought everything to our doorsteps, and although it had nothing to do with environement, the Green Week gave us the facility to eat and drink from all over the world, at very reasonable prices, in an enormous Exhibition. From German Schnapps, to hams from Denmark and elswhere, everything was tryable, before buying a re

YesButNoButYes: Why People Think Americans Are Stupid - Sent Using Google Toolbar

YesButNoButYes: Why People Think Americans Are Stupid Posted by ME!!!!!!! (At least on gmail iwmpop!!!!!!!) To the citizens of the United States of America, in the light of your failure to elect a competent President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective today. Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories. Except Utah, which she does not fancy. Your new prime minister (The Right Honourable Tony Blair, MP for the 97.85% of you who have until now been unaware that there is a world outside your borders) will appoint a minister for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire will be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed. To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect: 1. You should look

Oh dear, what will Wacky-backy say? His team out, no chance of winning anymore! I don't think he was present in the Stadium during the troubles!

Well, well, who is this handsome guy? How come he isn't taken? Where did he come from? Why is he so jummy? And elegant?

Slow Down Now: The almost serious antidote to workaholism - Little School

Here is an amusing little article which concerns itself with Schools, a little later than in my own period. It includes an amusing little description of the great game of cricket, which I don't agree with! Just click on the link to read it! Champagne and other matters

Watching a soccer match on the television last night, from the Stadium at Rheims, France, recalled to mind one of my (our) experiences as a youngish married couple. We were underway on one of our many "unofficial" trips, from Germany, and our aim had been to go to Paris, from Berlin, tracing the steps of a famous German Landau coach driver "Gustaf" (a landau coach was a sort of open horse drawn taxi of the 19th Century) Not having such a vehicle of that nature, we were doing it in our 23 year old Triumph Spitfire, with a canvas top, foldable back when the sun shone, so that made us almost identical to "Gustaf" except that we had a few horses more (which often didn't work) but we did have an open carriage, if I went faster than about 90km/h, because the press studs which held the canvas cover on were weary, and popped open at the wind force created at over 90km/h. Many a time we had to stop and go back to get the thing which had simply blown off. Anywa

Me? Nostradamus?

This blog is in essence a relatively strict non-political, non-racial, non-religious blog. This doesn't mean that I don't tackle issues of daily life, far from it, what it does mean is that all I try to do is to point out "discrepancies", "not quite correct" or downright wrong things in this so called "modern" life. I hope that not everybody is of the same opinion as myself, and that is what the "make a comment" possibility is there for, but I do hope that what I write may give grounds enough for other people to at least think about the given subject. I recall, some 40 or so years ago, a small voice in a wilderness, which addressed subjects "not desirable" in the society which I was obliged to live. It may also have been simply the arrogance of elders, who simply felt that a small voice of a very young person, was not to be taken seriously, and in fact had no idea what it said! 40 - or was it more, years ago, I (for it was, inde

My 1st "New" Birthday.........

In a couple of weeks, my 1st "new" birthday will be upon me, and all I can think of is the following: When I finally get to quit this wicked, wearying world, it won't be the the fault of the undoubtedly talented medical teams in Hospitals, who made it possible to open me up, cut and stitch here and ther, reclose everything and send me packing, no...... it won't be the fault of the same Hospitals' charging office, who being well informed that the Financial situation was critical on my side, decided nonetheless to force menaces of all sorts, to create the situation of stress demanded by the Doctors that must be avoided - at all price! No....... and it won't be the fault of the Politicians, who over years have made empty promises, or have given out deliberate "mistruths" (I use this word rather than "lies" - it sounds more politically correct!) and have constantly and persistantly ignored that their acts of bad management HAVE led to different

Euro-expensive or not?

Image
With the start of 2007, new countries have entered the European community, and one more has become a member of the Euro Community (as opposed to the European Union)This has inevitably led to the reopening of a discussion about whether things have been made more expensive by the Euro or not. (as you can see from the image, the Euro itself isn't as expensive as before!) Being of a Scottish miserly origin, I have thousands and thousands of till receipts, dating back to well before the introduction of the Euro, and I can certainly prove, from them, that the increase to normal living things like food and drink, is minimal, if at all!Seems like the producers and retailers have kept their end of the deal (even if involuntary, and only through strict controls). On the other hand, I can also prove that the areas where enormous increases have been made are those which were faithfully promised (again) by politicians to be the most strictly controlled. Things like Electricity, water, Gas bi
