The Frenchman-just one of many descriptive articles!

This article is about the "Frenchman", but there are "others - on others"! Jump in at:    http://sites.google.com/site/ianwmitchellswebsite/      and see if YOU are there! *************** Europe-"The Frenchman" Gallic flair. That's what one calls it. In the past, the most required tool in any French garage was a hammer, or rather a collection of hammers to match the size of the task. Ridiculously enough, a good hammering often worked (didn't lower the bill) and maybe this very fact was typical of those things which happened to 'non-Gallics' mainly on the paying end, and generally on holiday, which made English people apopleptict, even redder than usual, utterly mad and at a complete loss for words. Germans were seen to go off marching 'goose-step' manner, muttering things that darkly resembled political statements from a while back, Dutch and other northern climate people just didn't understand anything, and preferred...

John's Joke.....

Image
This is an example of a "created by chance" mosaic from the Programme "John's Background Switcher" (Google and download it). I've started wondering if it's all really "by accident". Many of the screensavers it has produced are just too perfectly positioned, as here. Why is the main back ground picture so perfectly placed...? In his case, I would certainly close my mouth.....! in any case - it's well done!

what....? pardon......? oh really.....?

I found this gem on a site I visit. It amused me and so cheered me up. Hope it does the same for you! If you've got the answer - please let me know.....in a language I can understand! Q: My computer has a 200 GB hard drive. What’s GB stand for? What’s a MB? How much data can my computer hard drive hold? A: If I asked you how many ounces are in a cup, you would be able to say that there are eight ounces in a cup and that would be it. And it should be that way for your hard drive question, right? In a perfect world. We’re talking about computers, remember? Let’s start with a list of prefixes: kilo = meaning 1,000. (one thousand) mega = meaning 1,000,000. (one million) giga = meaning 1,000,000,000 (one billion) tera = meaning 1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) So in answer to your question: GB is short for Gigabyte. MB is short for Megabyte. With a 200 Gigabyte (GB) hard drive, you have 200 billion bytes of data storage. If you had a 200 Megabyte hard drive, you have 200...

Weekend - time for thoughts....?

Image
Okay - it's the weekend. After a couple of weeks extremely "charged" and very life-style changing, possibly an opportunity to think over things - before Monday rings? Apart from the personal things in life, I've also been trying to apply a little bit of logic to this thing called "Linux", and I've figured out quite a bit, starting with the fact that the version they sold me, pre-installed - was so ancient that it wasn'r even supported anymore! Brand new, but almost useless! Only after hours of searching did I manage to get it updated to the latest "SLED" Linux system, which took hours and hours of downloading, installing and uploading and so on.... It may well be supported now, but the support forums aren't great, because all those forum people have already gone over to one of the other "Linux" sustems, notably "SUSE 11", and none of all that applies to my system! Never mind, I'll just have to keep pluggin...

Weekend, fin semaine, whatever....!

Image
Weekend, fin semaine, whatever....! And thank goodness! Maybe a little time to try and settle down after all the upheavals of the last two weeks!   All that is behind me now, and on looking back, I feel honoured to have been the subject of occasional "attacks" - little, well-timed and well-proportioned "bites" on the back of my leg - when the service at breakfast time was a little slow, for example, which tended to make me jump almost out of my skin... I reflected just the other day that if ever I were to take another beast on as my responsability (which I'm not going to!) I would be making the same mistake as the time I tried to replace my deceased wife. How on earth can you try to replace things like that...? When you've had 25 years of living with the most exceptional woman, in both terms as a person, and as a wife, it's not possible. Same thing with the beast, When you've had so long with the most intelligent and amazing of creat...

Automatic, by accident, photo programmes....

Image
for some time now I've had this free programme called "John's Background Switcher" installed. It's small, inobtrusive, easy and fun! It basically takes, by hazard, a series of images on your PC, and creates a new image using them! some of the results are very unusual and amusing - by accident....sometimes I'm not too sure! I mean, it wasn't me who put the bull's horn just below the illustrious minister's.....! Nor was it me who suggested a link between "Pontin's Holiday Camps" and a North Sea oil rig - somewhat basic and possibly uncomfortable...! Not guilty, but I find it amusing!

passing time.....!

Image
I found this thing on one of the sites I visit, and since I'd reflected on the same subject just very recently, I used (with some additions) the text to present you with some facts! *********** Prison vs. Work IN PRISON...you spend the majority of your time in an 8x10 cell. AT WORK...you spend most of your time in a 6x8 cubicle. IN PRISON...you get three meals a day. AT WORK...you only get a break for one meal and you have to pay for it. IN PRISON...you get time off for good behavior. AT WORK...you get rewarded for good behavior with more work. IN PRISON...a guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you. AT WORK...you must carry around a security card and unlock and open all the doors yourself. IN PRISON...you can watch TV and play games. AT WORK...you get fired for watching TV and playing games. IN PRISON...you get your own toilet. AT WORK...you have to share. IN PRISON...they allow your family and friends to visit. AT WORK...you cannot even speak to...

Granite de l'oasis....

Image
After a few days to note the sad news on the first anniversary of the death of Ruth Mitchell-Pitts, my sister, I must again, unfortunately, continue with other sad news. "Granite Oasis" - the cat of iwmpop (mr le Marquis), and of the hermitage has also died. She was relieved of her pain and distress, today - February 3, 2010 at Vauvert, France. This "small beast", who possessed a remarkable character and intelligence, had for some time suffered from kidney malfunction in her 19th year of life. For more than 10 years she had been the faithful companion of mr le Marquis, and her death leaves a gaping hole in his house and his life. When time goes - everything goes with it.  Even after 19 years, it's difficult to understand, as with my wife and sister.  Why things and people who have never harmed a person ....? Why not me,  myself ....? You can find photos of "Granite de l'oasis" by follo...
