Religious dates.

When one looks at my tradition-strewn yearly engagement plans, one could rapidly get the impression that I be (as chippie says) a religious one- arr!
I hasten to set the record straight. The opposite is the case, but certain things have, unfortunately, been an obligation to adopt.
After all, why not eat fish on a Friday? One should eat it more often anyway, but at least once a week is better than nonce a week. (In view of the price of fish now, anyway, once a week is princely or even royal!)On top of that, because the Catholics took it upon them to eat fish on Fridays, this meant that basically the fish which one could buy was fresher on the Thurs/Friday than on other days, and indeed the choice was greater on these two days as well. Often the prices are screwed downwards for a change (not by much - but every little helps)as well, so - FRESHER FISH, IN GREATER VARIETY,AT A CHEAPER PRICE(sometimes), but only on a Thursday or Friday. You would have to be stupid not to take the opportunity even though it be against one's beliefs and principals.
Another opportunity is around the various "religious" festivities of the year. Fresh, tender CHEAP(er) young spring lamb around Easter, together with certain types of fish (like carp, pike etc) not normally available to us lesser mortals, and all sorts of Fowl/Game around Christmas The list is quite long - so keep it rolling! (Incidentally - a relatively new one is the Veal for Pentecote!!)This gives access to other things, considered to be of a religious nature, like classical music-where one can play classics like Handel's Messia and others, without being considered a classical freak/nut. Unfortunately, it does often lead to being considered as a "good religious God-fearing person - just listen to his music at this period of the year" - IDIOTS, but let them go on in their way - so long as they leave me in "Pax Romanus".
Why am I telling you all this? Because (1) I had a day off yesterday, and (2) I'm just cooking my meal to classical music, with Christmas decorations in place! After all - today is the lst Sunday of Advent!! What is there nice and cheap for today?
A REAL cassoulet, made with FRESH - CHEAP - GOOD pork.
Tatty-bye now, mr. le Marquis is off to stuff himself, a fate which more than one of you have been wishing me for some time now!!
