Septimanie: Important for you tourists!

I would be prepared to bet (although not a betting man - the odds have been too stacked up against me all of my life) that when you saw the title of this Blogspot, you said to yourself, to your entourage - mr. le Marquis has had too much to drink, AGAIN!
Well, you may be right/wright/write - shall we say correct, but apparantly not as much as Mr. Georges FRECHE - who has once again taken over the reins in the area you ALL once knew as:

"LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON"

This was the area comprising roughly of the French Departments:
GARD, HERAULT,
LOZERE, AVEYRON : the area of your holidays.

Now, according to mr. FRECHE (a regional politician, leader - president - of the currently governing party/coalition), we must all, tourists and residents, get used to the fact that he has decided to change the name of the Region to the supposed and assumed, ancient Roman name:
"SEPTIMANIE" (http://www.septimanie.fr/)
( you click on the link, you're into the political nonsense- but you do it at your own risk and consequences)

This decision has, not surprisingly, met with not a little opposition!
For many elderly residents, the name has no sense, recalls something having to do with "manie-maniac", represents enormous cost in new publicity, changing logos, changing stamps-official seals- official letter headings - anything official, changing signs etc, etc, etc., for no apparant financial, or other gain (apart from the personal pleasure of Caesar FRECHE, his family, and possibly his henchmen. They should take care, for the "Ides of March" come around regularly, once a year!)

For the younger residents, what does it matter - Septimanie, or, Languedoc-Roussillon - they couldn't care less. They have difficulty to even read or write the one or the other! Anyway - who the hell is FRECHE? We've arrived here from "Greater Paris" and we've taken over. P____SS off with your local traditions!

To fill in the necessary forms for grants/financial support, so that the swimming pool in the front garden becomes a "utility", and therefore paid for by all, whilst staying private, and usable only by the few, has become their main obsession, rivalled only by their obsession to fill in as many forms for as many grants, etc as possible.

For the residents from further afield , speaking other languages, the name SEPTIMANIE, recalls illnesses of the blood (septicimea), as for the older residents, who recall particularly the gangrenouse times of the "great war", and stories of bad blood are not particularly those which one wishes in a holiday/tourist area, particularly in this epoch of "AIDS/SIDA".

Mr. Freche insists, and no matter what the actual residents say - we are all now residents of Septimanie.

What the customs officer in New York (or elsewhere), is going to say, or do, or think, when I tell him I'm from Septimanie, would not appear to disturb Mr. FRECHE!
Another thing - what or who am I? What will one call me?

Un(e) Septie? Un(e) Manie ? Un(e) maniaque? Un(e) Septimanie? Un(e)Septimaniaque?

Or, more likely, knowing human nature, something much more vicious!

I suspect you will all pounce on the occasion and call me simply:

"A nuisible, but necessary, septimaniaque, from Septimanie, probably full of septicimea (particularly between the ears), who keeps us all up to date with things that happen in our favourite holiday area! "

I have no problem with that!!
