Grilled Marquis!!
So there we are - Monday the 9th May and I'm still alive!
Everything went off well, except the 80 people turned out to be 40, and the lady commanding had decided to save time, money, effort on serving the same meal twice, midday and evening (guests always stay for Midday and evening meal here). To avoid asking me to stay through until 9pm or later (which I wouldn't have done!!), she had simply doubled the number of guests in her request, and that was that! Tres Bourgoise!! Never mind!
Except, there were one or two other little points not too "kosher" either!
Firstly, a few invited guests were unable to attend at the lst minute - bringing the actual numbers down to around 30! 80 to 40 to 30 = LARGE PORTIONS LUNCH AND SUPPER!! Made no difference to me, but the last point DID!
Madame - taking her role seriously, had informed me that she would supply the 8 chickens necessary from her own stock, owning as they do, a farm! Her husband would slaughter them - and they would be "nice and fresh and firm!" Okay by me - but unfortunately husband seemed not to know the difference between chicken and COCK! I received 10 VERY FIRM male varieties of the poultry familly, which would have required at least 4 hours of cooking in a "Coq au vin" and would still have been firm, but eatable! In a "paella" which takes around 40 minutes, beginning to end, their place was not to be found!!
She insisted, so I put them in, in place of the chicken, and - once paella finished - I took them out again as being indigestable!! Changed the menu to "Riz pilaff au fruits de mer" and everybody was happy!!
Why is it always the women (who tend not to know how to cook!) who want to change things? My instructions concerning ingredients are ALWAYS clear and concise - maybe it is that which upsets the female race!! Cock: HEN : both of which come from the same type of
EGG and they both start life as
!!!!!! (paella size!)
