East Berlin Soviet Cemetary
In 1966, as Squadron Clerk, I was responsible for the distribution of "anti-spy" cards re the then well-known "SOXMIS" missions. I chose to distribute these cards here, don't know why, I'd forgotten them! Of course the 1000 or so cards fell on the paving, and the Russian soldiers helped us, the British, to pick them all up, without asking any questions. Afterwards we exchanged cigarettes, and we (the Brits) had the chance to drink a vodka from the Russian soldiers personal flasks. We didn't sing christmas carols, or play football, but we had an interesting 20 minutes, before regaining out respective coaches!
