Liver and Kidneys-very special ingredients!
Amongst my favourite, cheaper, dishes are cooked liver and onions, or cooked devilled kidneys, but not MY OWN!
I was pleasantly surprised, therefore, this morning, when I attended the X-ray Doctor for a special series of X-ray photos, arranged by my GP (who is convinced that I'm an alcoholic) to prove to me that I would have to limit my consume of certain things!
Tomorrow, at 1130 am, I shall stick my tongue out at him, politely of course, and suggest that he start looking in the medecines he advised me to take, because IMAGINE - Liver & kidneys are in fine form!! AND I've got photographic proof!
All that is left is the pain killer treatment he prescribed, which is known for changing the liver values!
He'll be disappointed, I know, and I must admit, I am EXTREMELY surprised, I fully expected there to be something or other, for my professions (Soldier/Civil Servant and Chef) were all in areas relatively exposed to over eating, over drinking and over everything else!
But then - that was a choice I made, knowingly, after all, what use is it to live in a country like France, if you're not allowed to eat all the lovely things, nor drink the wines?
Maybe, in my defence, I can say that I've NEVER had a penchance for things like Pastis, Ricard, Anis, nor even Scotch (except in longdrink cocktails) but I did have (when I used to be able to afford it) a little tendancy towards "digestifs" - Cognac, Calvados and all the happy family.
My beer consummation was extraordinary, and legendary, hence my passing so many years in Germany, the country of "liquid bread" (for a German, beer is not alcohol). I even gave up sugar in my tea or coffee for sweeteners - it was either sugar or beer, and the choice was plain and clear!
Poor old Doctor - I'll do my best in the next 20 years or so to buck his moral up, but for the moment, it's noon, and I'm off to table for the following (in this order:
(maybe a couple, to celebrate). Followed by.......(just a couple of thicker slices)............................All washed down by copious glasses of - you know what!
Tomorrow it'll be back to normal, I suppose!
