Taking care of things!
I was having a chat with my mate Chippie the other day, and it occured to me that a little piece about Computer care wouldn't be amiss! The suggestions are seriously meant, but it shouldn't be taken as too serious in other aspects!
Taking care of things is something difficult to do, sometimes, but necessary all the same!
Everything is done (by oneself, if possible) to make sure you don't break down in the middle of nowhere. Of course you could do nothing, and end up with a vehicle as seen in the illustration above, but you don't, you wash it, clean it, polish it, change the oil and the cooling liquid etc...etc....If you don't know how to do it, you quickly find out (in view of Garage charges nowadays) and you caress the 4 or 2 or 3 wheeled thing! It generally repays you by taking you and the wife, wherever you wanted to go!
Talking about wifey. You all take care of her, I presume. OK you don't wash her, polish her and all that, but yo rapidly try to find out how she works! When was the last time YOU occupied yourself and took care of your wifey? You know it works out cheaper in the end! The cooking has a tendancy to be better, and of course, everybody knows that only contented cows give good milk (sorry ladies!)So - you take care of wifey, and it pays!
You expect that everytime you switch it on, everything will work. Why should it? It feels neglected, left alone too long, taken for granted, not taken care of, and it gets it's own back!
Generally, it's at this moment that most people start howling about "bloody computers" - "bloody Bill Gates" etc...etc...! Threats that "you're going out of the window(s)".
You haven't done anything to take care of it! Car, wife, and all the rest have had their share of your affections, how about ME!!?
You start thinking about it, and you give up in roughly 10 minutes! You make no attempt to find out the basics! You've got an Anti virus programme (probably updated years ago) an Anti Adware programme (which you know nothing about, but it's there) an Anti Spy programme (which you think is stupid, because who is going to spy on me?). You've complained, often, about how slow the thing is, but you've NEVER (in all those years) defragmented the thing, never emptied Temp folders, never deleted your cookies (half of which you don't use anymore anyway), and running "chckdisk" - what the hell is that for? Run "clndsk" - never heard of it! Delete all but the last GOOD "system restore" point (I know, I know - what's that then?). Well, last time I did just that, I gained over 2G's of disk space! Emptied the recycle bin? You empty the garbage bins at home, of course you do - otherwise the whole place stinks!
You've learnt all about thousands of other "take care of" things in your life, but ME? I've got to get on all by myself! Think about it in this way:
