Danger! Man at work!
Once upon a time there was no need to search for "bloomers" or rudeness from Politicians. They were there, present, but unspoken and therefore unreported.
One simply knew what a Churchill or a De Gaulle thought about the electors, privately, and contented oneself with the official statements, which said little.
Not very democratic or open, one could say, but actually infinately better than the recent "changes" made by the French President Sarkozy.
"Modernize" things, said this arrogant personnage, and proceeded to do so!
Once divorced, he immediately divorced a second time, just 3 months or so in Office, and to thoroughly "modernize" the whole thing, got married to wife Nr 3 just 3 weeks after the second divorce! Decidedly he likes to do things in "three's"!
Poor lady, I suppose she must love him, after all we ARE in France, where matters of the "coeur" are slightly different!(Mme Sarkozy III)
Imagine a "commander-in-chief" who changes his mind every 2 or 3 weeks!
Imagine a Napoleon who says on Monday - "let's go to Waterloo", and then on Friday (just one day before the match) says - "No, no, we won't bother!"
Waterloo may never have happened!
Napoleon's descendents could still be in power- all over Europe!
Then the latest scandal from Sarkozy! Really, no Politician should express his private views in public. Once elected, this fellow announces (like many before him) that he will be a President for ALL French citizens, and a few months later announces in front of running cameras that the Frenchman who refused to shake his hand was a "pauvre con" (roughly translated as "poor bastard") and that he (the member of the Public) should "bugger off" ("tire-Toi" , in the personal form).
The elected Politicians have a right to their personal estimation of the Electorate, and they all have one, but in general, they keep it for themselves or for private and personal debate.
This spoilt child, Sarkozy, from a generation of impolite and un-intelligent people, who in turn have generated another Generation even more unsupportable, does not accept this principle.
He is "modern" - sweep away all this nonsense of "false friendliness" and replace it with "frank and open statements" - meaning quite simply gross rudeness, mixed with a naivety worthy of a student in the 60's, and just as intelligent! Youth jubels, at last someone who breaks the rules. Unfortunately for the Modern President, youth has a tendency to a) grow up, and b) not vote!
Respect is demanded from every French citizen for he or she who enrobes the position of President de la Republique.
Respect? For a snotty nosed, impolite, spoilt child who has not even the intention to implement his pre-Election promises, and never had! Respect for someone who doesn't know the meaning of the word?
This man COULD have been dangerous, to Democracy and to the pleasures and standards of life, but (thankfully) he has already shot his bolt, just months into his "Regency".
Surely - he has quite a few years to correct the situation, but somehow I think that the Electorate is no longer as gullible as before! Everything said and done in the future by this President, will be subjected to enormous analysation by everyone, not just his political opponents.
Until then, what many French Catholics see as a lady philanderer, and an adulterer, will remain President, and will mix with the high prominence of the Catholic church - worldwide. Strange moral values!
One could almost say that people no longer beleive in "St. Nicholas" - but they will still celebrate the 25th of December, even for the next 5 or 6 years!
Imagine - the British (or a lot of them) thought that their "President" was bad! The guy was a Statesman compared to the new arrivals!
(probably the 1st "President of Europe")
