Muck and money!

You all know those guys (and some women) who are always complaining. Weather's been too wet, too warm, too cold, too dry, too everything.
Generally installed at the local market in their largish, newish Mercedes-Benz, or sitting atop of a newish, shiny tractor (many of them with air conditioning and pollen filters nowadays) it seems that nothing is right with the world of Agriculture.
Although there are doubtless many who don't make fame or fortune, and many others (particularly in Britain) who have been - or will be - hit by some blight or other, ranging from mad cow to poultry flu, life isn't all "moody blues" in the Agricultural scene,
These figures have been released by the Central Agricultural Office of the European Community, and represent the "averages" within the EU, therefore also including Britain.
It's interesting to have an idea of the average annual income of Agriculturers.
Just to give a comparison point, the EU also informs me that the average Pension within the same Zone is approximately 9500euros per year :

CEREALS- average annual income = 22,600 euros.

PORK & POULTRY - average annual income = 25,300 euros.

VEGETABLES- SALADS & FLOWERS - average annual income = 18,900

A few more examples?
Quality wine producers = 31,000 euros (wine and wine products VDQS and above)
Base wine producers = 22,000 euros ( wines and wine products of lower quality)
Fruits = 26,200 euros (NOT including vegetable producers)
Beef producers = 20,900 euros
Dairy and cheese producers = between 17,400 and 19,500 euros depending on quality.
(based on known quality types of cheese and yoghourts etc)
Milk producers = 19,500 euros (producers of milk uniquely)

Remember: PENSIONERS = 9,500 euros per year.

One could add to the above figures the fact that the producers (one may assume) will have free access to their own products, and to a freshness and quality superior to that which Pensioners have the right to pay heavily for.

Somebody, somewhere, once wrote "All animals are equal, only some animals are MORE equal than others!"

>>>>>>>>>>>>>Latest news: In France (as in almost every other European country) the last three months (up to end January 2008) have shown an EXPLOSION in basic food prices, far and away above the rises occasioned by basic product (wheat, petrol, oil, etc) costs.
The suspicion is that Producers, middle men and the large retail outlets are profiting on the backs of the consumer.
MUST BE THE "more equal" ANIMALS!
