The truth will out...!
I don't think for one moment that people of my age are even slightly surprised by the events in what is euphamistically called
This "honourable" house, and by the machinations of the "honourable" members!
We all knew that things were not "Persil" white, and we knew that many years ago. The only surprise for us now, is the extraordinary naivety and ignorance being shown by the honourable Gentlemen (and Ladies) in their attempts to get their chestnuts back out of the fire!
Maybe it isn't naive or ignorance, simply another sign of the total alienation from a population responsable for voting, for putting people into surroundings where they don't ever really see REAL people, in daily problematics, trying to deal with things.
The number of politiciens who recently knew the price of a loaf of bread was disturbingly low, and their efforts to "guess" the right price were equally disturbing, but then again - if you just put everything on your Expense Account, or if you just get yourself invited by someone - somewhere, when you're hungry, how CAN you know the price of a loaf....?
So - now the Police are going to have a look....! Is that another Branch of "honourable Gentlemen"?
The fact of the matter is that it always has been, always will be, those people who demand respect from the General Public, who are the biggest scoundrels around!
Dentists, Lawyers, Judges, Policemen, Politicians, Religious leaders, Bankers - and all the rest (I'm sorry if I missed you out).
Those people who turn up to all "free" Banquets and other events, and turn a nose if they are asked for a small contribution to a "good cause"!
Of course - because they know that many- or most- "good causes" are only good for those in the upper echelons of the organizers! Mind you - they could put it down on the Expenses!
Fact is that if these "to be respected" personnages lived in a different system, they wouldn't do these things.
Why not...? Because they know only too well that the truth will out, and they would be set up on the local market square, on market day, and publicly flogged, until the tears ran. In certain corners of the world, they would be submitted to such indignities, in full view of the public eye - literally (for them) a fate worse than death.
Apart from a very tender "po-po" for a long time, they would be incapable of showing their faces anywhere - not even at the kid's school when they went, in their immense four wheel drived monsters, to collect him - sibling and heir to a fortune built on fraud!
I doubt, in fact, whether son and heir would wish "sore-popo-papa" to show his face!
Personally, I would not only publicly flog them, but having done so, I would gently inform them to be back next week - same time - same place - same treatment - for the next 10 weeks - once a week!
In certain corners of the World, they would be shot in the neck - a far too quick method of dealing with them, and elsewhere, they would have a hand cut off - effectively making them invalids and incapable of work.
No - public flogging and shaming is a great thought!
Thing is - they know we'll never do it!
Claims for "Local Taxes" they never paid!
I recall a story, some years back, about a Granny of over 80 years, who was prepared (and expected) to be incarcerated because she couldn't pay her Tax!
I never did hear the outcome of the case.
And here they are - these oh-so "Honourable Ladies and Gentlemen" - "Lords and Dames" -
claiming back taxes they never paid - on their "Expense Accounts"!
Yes - the truth will out, and the next few years will bring out other truths (at least in my view). What goes on, really, within those "honourable" walls - between people who work, live and love there...?
No question for me - the next big scandal will be of a "musky, erotic" type....A sort of "honourable hump" - and we all know or suspect it.....!
