More things that can happen.....!

Do you really look down deep into your PC system to find out whether somebody else can get hold of your details....?
Or do you, like most of us, simply rely on your AV System - it will figure out id something "fishy" is going on....?

Well - I've got news for you!
There are many ways that a "malware" or "malperson" can get onto your wavelengths, sometimes completely by accident, sometimes on purpose, sometimes by mistake, sometimes not.
Sometimes the details are usable, often not - due to other factors required.
Your CB (Visa etc) can be dechiffered, and used, but not mine - because I've only got overdrawals on my Bank Account!
It's just one of thos "uneasy" feelings.
Somebody else, even family members, have no business looking at what I'm doing, have done, or maybe will do!
Not even "by mistake" and not unless they've been invited to do so, or have told me that they COULD......

OK - so life isn't always a bowl of cherries, or in this case a barrel of rosy apples, but all the same.....!
What can you do about it?
Well - some of the simplest things to do (apart from trying to keep your Information as guarded as possible) are those we DON'T do!
Simple things - taking little time and easy to correct. Here are a couple of simple ideas:
1. Use a "rootkit" scanner programme. If you pay for your AV programme, this should be included. If it's not, change your AV Server!
If, like me, you use a "free" AV programme, then you'll probably have to go off on the search for a free "Rootkit" Scanner programme. There are quite a few out there, from AVG for example, and they all take roughly the same time to scan your PC.

2. Check periodically that the "guest" account is not being used. Simple - here's how:

"Start- Control Panel-Users Accounts" - Check that you are the Administrator and that the guest accounts are not being used, or delete any that you don't know or don't want! Strangely enough, Windows sometimes installs an account, without really informing you.
They say it's necessary for a certain programme (.net Passport) to work correctly, but in that case, I don't want the Windows programme concerned!

3. Possibly the most important whenever you get a new or new/used PC.
You don't know what the habits of the previous owner were, nor the ethics of the Dealer who sold you the new PC, so - check whether access to remote control is activated or not.
I mean, you can hardly complain about somebody going onto your PC and having a look around, maybe doing some "naughty's" when you've allowed remote access to your PC, maybe for some help with a problem, or by mistake, or just because you don't know how to control the setting! Here's how:

"Start - Control Panel - System - Remote - uncheck the boxes - click apply - OK"

These are a few suggestions, but don't forget:

"Discretion is the baby of all things"
