It's the Village Fete at the moment, has been for the last 6 days, so I (and all the other residents of the quarter) have the right to almost non-stop music, of all types.

That doesn't bother me too much, but we've also got the right to racing cars and motor bikes in the narrow little Southern French village "rouelles", one in particular, a guy of "North African" origins, doesn't even live in the quarter, and I'm not even sure he lives in the Town - anywhere.

What I do know is that he resembles both physically and visually a gorilla, or a drunken potatoe, and I do know that he is the "calif" of the local drug scene.

He arrives in the Village in the evening, then I know we're in for a few shouting and screaming scenes later on.

I'm certain his activities are not unknown by the authorities, but they do seem to be ignored.

Why - I can't tell you, but I do know that every day at various hours, we all have the right to screeching tyres as he speeds away on a "mercy" mission....!

This led me to thinking......

In this area, and in France as a whole, the statistics of mortal accidents on the roads has risen by nearly 15% - just during the month of August....!

This led me to posing another question I have wondered about for years - How come it's hardly ever the "drugged" or "drunken" ones who get killed, murdered....?

Nearly always the others, on their way home from a quiet evening out.

Now - I drink, but then, I don't drive!

I'm not a saint, I have done in the past, but it does now seem to be the rule rather than the exception to do so.

Get smashed - find (borrow or steal) a vehicle, crash it, kill a few innocents, plead guilty but insane, and be ordered to do some hours of community work.....!

Is it that famous or rather infamous "Guardian Angel"?

If it is, seems to me to be a damned funny "Angel" who works in that way, the wonders to perform.....!

Maybe it's another "fallen angel" - how come he never gets smashed to bits by a speeding car or motorbike....?

He must have another "guardian angel" - that makes two.....!

The side of the roads here are smothered with little crucifixes, with plastic flowers, sometimes real ones - another site of "guardian angels" endeavours......

Well - all I can say is:

Bravo - seems to have done a good job here in the area, just not the right ones.......!
