There was an event earlier in this month which has undoubtedly been relatively ignored by most people, even the French. Here, in French, is the announcement made by the French President Sarkozy regarding the event:" Nicolas Sarkozy
Mayotte est officiellement un département de France. Depuis plus de 50 ans, les Mahorais se battent pour être rattachés de la manière la plus étroite qui soit à notre République. Ils ont approuvé la départementalisation à plus de 95% le 29 mars 2009. L’effort à accomplir est immense, et la départementalisation se fera de manière progressive. C'est un jour de fête pour tous les Français, de Mayotte ou d'ailleurs."

This was published on "Facebook" and basically (for non-French speaking readers) is the announcement that the island of Mayotte has become a French Department - in other words, it is now ain integrated part of mainland France, with all the French rules and Regulations now applying.
No - this wasn't an invasion, the Residents of Mayotte had voted overwhelmingly (95% voting for).
Now - this may not seem world shattering news, but it does open certain new aspects of possible life and living.
Basically, this Caribbean island becomes also a part of the European Community, and - as such - is now open to any European Citizen to go and install himself either as a pensioner or a work seeker!
He will be able to receive the Health and Social Services as though he was installed in France, and will be treated as a European citizen is treated in any other European Community country....
Now - doesn't that make your day dreaming take off....?
But....wait....for the Residents, there are some small problems they did not anticipate!
One in particular is causing them some problems - their NEW Justice System...!

Up till now the system was based on the Muslim Religious based system called "CADI" administered by Religious "leaders"
Now this has resulted in many changes, particularly older or even some younger but highly religious people being "confused". They still present themselves at the "Cadi" buildings and expect "Cadi Justice" only to be told that the French system of Justice is now applicable, administered of course, by the ultra modern legal experts from Paris, France, at least for the start. They, of course, have little or no knowledge of local customs going back thousands of years and problems are prepared - without doubt.
Many of the judges are not of Muslim beliefs, and although this is not a pre-requisite, I could imagine that it would help a great deal if they at least had some ideas of the faith.
So....before you go "swanning off" to your well earned retirement on the exotic Caribbean islands, make sure you know what's going on if you get yourself married to a Caribbean beauty..
