The Tower of Babel (Syriac: ܡܓܕܠܐ ܕܒܒܠ, Maḡdlā d-Bāḇēl; Hebrew: מִגְדַּל בָּבֶל, Migdal Bāḇēl) is a Near Eastern etiological myth that is recorded in the Jewish Tanakh's first book (Genesis); it is meant to explain the origin of different languages.[1][2][3][4] According to the story, a united humanity of the generations following the Great Flood, speaking a single language and migrating eastward, came to the land of Shinar (Hebrew: שנער). There they agreed to build a city and a tower "tall enough to reach heaven"; seeing this, God, confounded their speech so that they could no longer understand each other and scattered them around the world.
Now then - my Mother was not a really intelligent person, but she knew her Bible, and said that anyone she couldn't understand was 'a work of the Devil'
Imagine my surprise when she couldn't tell me what language everybody spoke before the Tower of Babel episode!
She KNEW it could only have been English, of course!
OK - so Google didn't exist, but I think I deserved a better answer than 'go and ask your Father!'
Nowadays it's quite difficult to write things because the Navigators can and do translate things, normally quite badly, so you have to try and keep what you write 'Navigator Friendly'......
Some of them, free, are quite good - like Google Translation, my own favourite
I actually use it just for 1 word, like a Dictionary, but it's good for accents as well. Do your letter or note and highlight then 'cut & Paste' wherever.
The worst, I find, is the Facebook variety....!
At the end of the day, free or purchasable they all lead to the so called solution of the 'Tower of Babel' situation.....maybe it should have been called:
TRUMP TOWERS...!
