DUBLIN (Reuters) - Irish police have solved the mystery of a Polish recidivist who clocked up 50 traffic offenses on different addresses and who was never caught, after one officer noticed his name meant driving license in Polish. An internal police memo cited by Irish papers Thursday said officers taking details of Polish traffic offenders had been mistakenly using "Prawo Jazdy," printed in the top right corner of the driving license, as the holder's name. "Prawo Jazdy is actually the Polish for driving license and not the first and surname on the license," the police memo dated June 2007 said. "It is quite embarrassing to see the system has created Prawo Jazdy as a person with over 50 identities." A police spokesman declined to comment on the reports. Those of you with satellite TV can go on a German trip today...!   Parades - marches, music, beer and "wurst"!      It's called "WEIBERFASCHNACHT"!  All day. It's all part of the centuries old "Karneval" - an amazingly long festival period, all over Germany. It starts on the 11-11 (11th November every year), which, from the numbers seems reasonable for a "silly season". The only problem with that date is that everywhere else in the world celebrates a different event at 11hrs,11minutes on the 11th day of the 11th month - and not at all a silly or amusing celebration...! Today is traditionally the "ladies" day, where they are allowed to "symbolically" cut off the mens' ties - in place of something else...! Of course, most men who play the game and enter into the spirit of things, have special older ties ready for the day. Some of them even keep the already cut off tie from previo...

I got this message the other day, and my immediate reaction was - what the.....! After all, I accept - like everyone else here in the area -that Winter is a part of life, but.... if somebody could get it right, elsewhere..... After all, everybody knows that winter and cold weather is that 7 to 10 day period here in Southern France, when you go no-where, do nothing, except eat and drink, crouch in front of the heating, and generally moan! For 7 to 10 days...! However..... when it starts late October/early November, and even now, late February, it's still going - then something isn't right! Although - I must say, today I felt the sun, for the first time in 3 months or so, and I've started thinking about when to open all the windows. My girlfriend is still strictly against such measures, and is pressed firmly against her personal radiator, next to her personal basket....! Anyway - God - I'll pass the memo on, but in the meantime.........?
