Boom boom.......

Image
I recall, way back, that certain voices in power at the time, were warning permanently about a " baby boom " would come - was already in progress. It came, apparently, from the return of some troops from the war, with the inevitable consequences! Being born in 1946, I myself am a part of this baby boom, but somehow it's got a lot worse than previewed. One question to be asked is whether the problems within the British NHS and the pitiful state of Health Insurance in the USA is a situation "wanted" by the Governments. And yet - we we...

A small village story.......

Image
A true story from a small French village. Just the other day I was going through some of the many older documents and papers that I seem to collect, like millionaires collect bank notes , and I stumbled across some photos, so faded and colourless that I couldn’t even scan them, and a couple of bits of paper, which recalled these events to my mind. The story is an example of yesterday, today and probably tomorrow. Make what you will of it, here it is. It was spring, roughly 1985, and the weather was, as usual, splendid. We had descended from Bavaria , where we lived, for our customary 2 weeks in the South of France (at the time our occupations allowed us to work solidly many hours over a 2 week period, and have the other 2 weeks a month in our little niche in France ). The extreme differences in everything, from life style and weather to language and friends, was always interesting, and we profited enormously from these periods. Tower of Babel......

One of the problems of trying to arrange Sites, Blogs and other things as simple as e-mails, in different languages (in my case English , French , German ) is the fact that outside of English, they all have accents which tend not to be available except by using a translator or spell check program, either added to a browser or separate from it. There are many variations from FREE to VERY EXPENSIVE and from the downright awful to exceptionally good. So - let's go searching... . since I can't get spell checker to work correctly on Chrome or Fikrefox. Logo used from the start of the Chrome project until March 2011 (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) English: Firefox word mark . From http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/about/logo/style.html. (Photo credit: Wikipedia ) I tend to use the browser Chrome , because it's normally the best, followed by Firefox . The spell checker built in the program had been always adequate. It's not really a dictionary or word searcher I need, ju...

20 years......

Image
It was at around 0320hrs 20 years ago this morning that my telephone rang to announce the fact that my wife Kathleen had passed away. This is a scanned photo of herself and her family. Only her sister is still alive to my knowledge. One of the older girls is a cousin - Kathleen is the baby. On a different note, her father, a gentle man, had his life ruined, as I understand it, when he was the first British soldier to enter the Nazi concentration camp , Bergen-Belsen .   Related articles International Holocaust Remembrance Day ~ 27th January (lunaticoutpost.com)
