Beaches, beaches - nothing but beaches!

It's holiday time for the rich, the famous and the not so famous! So a little article about beaches seems reasonable, even if there is very little risk that mr le marquis will find himself on a beach in the near future!
Far too many people, all compressed in oil - like sardines. Then, when you get home, with the outer skin crisped like a roast chicken, your next problems start - you're going to find sand EVERYWHERE, for the next month or so!
If you have a "receding" hair line, then avoid trying to comb what is left, you just risk hearing the crackling noises associated with famous and already quoted roast chicken breasts - and intense pain, until next time around, when you've forgotten your sufferings!
Here in the area, there are many and very famous beaches, from the "Grau du Roi" to "La Grande Motte" passing by the "Cap d'Agde" (the only beach I know of where up to 15,000 nudists gather EVERY DAY to exhibit!)
Have you ever noticed that it is more often than not the "freaks" who tend to exhibit?
You know, the guy with a thing like a python trailing in the sand, or those females whose breasts do the same thing!
I don't go often, in fact not at all, the last time I was obliged to go was back in 1966, and then only to drag some British Soldiers (on "rest & recreation") OUT!
In any case, I must admit to being somewhat "kinky" - I find the completely naked human body amongst the most unattractive things going.
Sexy...? Not in the least - and most people would agree that an attractive body is considerably more interesting if it is covered, strategically, with a few flimsy bits and pieces.
It's the imagination that counts - and it's the imagination which must be given free license.
I have several neighbours who are regulars at these places, and they fit, exactly, the description given.
50 to 60 year olds should really know better!
But...apart from these simple facts, the Beaches have another interesting factor.
There - where the python with breasts is tracing his/her passage in the sand, under the searing sun, used to be the scene of other events!
There - where the holiday makers are tumbling around - even there where the little wooden "season-only" Restaurant is serving icy beer, and probably "fresh fish from Iceland" menus (maybe - if you're lucky - some oysters or mussels from last week) used to be the scene of other activities!
Few people are aware of it, and most of those who are aware try to avoid the theme. It just doesn't fit in any more!
(Internment Camp at Frontignan)

Internment Camps - and not holiday camps either!

These had been taken over from the German Occupation time, when they had held all sorts - Jews, Gypsies, French, Spanish .........

(Rivesalts)

This one was at Rivesaltes, now known for its sweet dessert wine "Muscat" and it had held, like the one's at Frontignan (also well known for it's Muscat wine) and elsewhere in the area, all the races considered as "deplaced" or "enemy".
In fact, not only the Germans were responsible. During the Civil War in Spain, many thousands of Spanish fled the Castro regime, crossed the Pyrenees, into France, and beleived they would be safe!
There was no European Community, Common Market or whatever in those days, and they found themselves in Internment Camps on the Beaches!
Just barbed wire at first - then a few rudimentary shacks - the sea was their toilet, LIKE TODAY!
The weather wasn't different from now either, hot, searing sunshine during the day, and cold at night!
One could say - the first Holidaymakers in the area!
These Beach areas were later taken over by the military and used as so called "Plages Militaire" for soldiers on R&R. A large part was eventually taken over and used as the first "FKK" or "Nudiste" zones- right next to the Military beaches.....!

It's not to spoil your holiday, but just a little bit of local colour - that they don't normally show!
