http://www.amazon.com/ Pompeii .../dp/B00KPJT282/ref=sr_1_1 Order it now and you'll have it for the beach time....or, of course, you can pop down to Naples and see it for yourself, hoping it won't erupt again  while you're there! Vesuvius is the only volcano in the European mainland that erupted in historical times. This volcano  is currently under a temporary sleep by more than six decades, but scientists warn that the next big eruption could be as big as that one in AD 79 , which buried the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum and killed roughly 16,000 people. The crater is 1280m tall and located just 20km (12 miles) away from Naples, Italy 's third largest city. But today, the population living around the volcano is about 3 million; at least 300,000 of those living nearby would be killed by the next eruption if not evacuated beforehand, according to the first three-dimensional computer simulation of an eruption. Today - 1st May........

Image
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_Day Shop open 1 may.......  Satanism....Sexual....whatever...the fact is that on the 1st May, wherever it's celebrated as May Day or Labour Day, 'Fete du Travaille'.....or whatever - it's one day that most people do not work on!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_France   Here in France where holidays are quite plentiful, but rarely respected (ie the Shops are almost always open) this day is one of the few that allow the shops to close at Midday, but not all of them! One of the French traditions was, and still is, a 'Muguet'.......... ' France [ edit ] On May 1, 1561, King   Charles IX of France   received a   lily of the valley   as a lucky charm. He decided to offer a   lily of the valley   each year to the ladies of the court. At the beginning of the 20th century, it became custom to give a sprig of lily of the valley, a symbol of springtime, on May 1. The government permits individual...

back in the time...

I found this article on my Google Drive today - it goes back to 2006 or so, when I was due to go into hospital for a heart bypass operation. The procedure of 'stents' to widen the arteries had been done 3 or 4 times with limited success, and so a bypass was deemed necessary. Frankly I wasn't particularly bothered - yes, I was feeling more and more weaker, but I was also more and more older! Since the hospital at /nimes could not do these operations at the time, I had to go to Montpellier, by paid taxi of course. But I thought I owed it to myself and the Health Insurance to try my own test! A bit like this....... Well, I'm afraid I may have some bad news for some of you! Yesterday, I put my pen-ultimate test into operation, and passed! You see, whilst not mocking or disbelieving Doctors, Surgeons,Politicians, I have always worked on the basis of testing myself to standards laid down by myself! Having passed the last 15 or so years, in trying to find ...

What's Easter...?

Image
Well - basically, since I live in France , it means: “ Pâques ”....... http://www.frenchmoments.eu/easter-traditions-in-france-paques-en-france/   You can find lots of information here. A lot of people, non- French speaking , don't know this, although they do know the word ' Pascale ', as a name or as in 'lamb pascale'  it's another word in French that has an accent, which means that the original has been 'adapted', in this case the accent over the 'a' represents - originally- an 's' (which it often does in latin based languages). The French are - like the Spanish , Italians  and others, inclined to only celebrate the ' festival days ' (ie when they don't work) in this case Monday! Good Friday doesn't really exist, and even the Easter Sunday is only important for the religious people, even the Supermarkets are open to buy forgotten things like this!  ...... So far as other traditions are concerned, there are m...

strange publicity tactics.

Image
Well - I do my best, and I don't really think it sucks, but I had a strange experience recently. I received a mail from something which will remain A. Nony. Mouse claiming to represent his client who shall also remain A. Nony. Mouse! This client, a bank, had requested that a link to his Bank be removed from an article on my blog.   Since I make a point of promising to review any requests of this nature, I checked through, which took me quite some time and didn't please me  but I finally found the link, which had come, in fact, from the programme ' Zemanta ' which searches subjects and photos as you type, and they are inserted as above, in blue or orange......OK - no problem, I simply took the link off, but WHY should a well known Bank have an agent who occupies himself uniquely with little known blogs like mine? All very strange particularly since ' Wikipaedia ' shows a link and a page about this bank! OK - so I'm happy to have had 40,000 visitors, b...

Dictatorial....

Mr. le Marquis du Galipot (iwmpop) iwmpop@gmail.com For your pleasure! - Pour votre plaisir! - Fur Ihrer Unterhaltung! Dictators and other maniacs ! In light of recent events in Pakistan and elsewhere, it seems that these Dictator style maniacs just never learn, or they have learnt, and have now just accepted that the eventual inevitable fall from the top can be cushioned, very favourably, by making the necessary financial arrangements whilst at the top? It is otherwise difficult to explain why – since Hitler – there have been so many of them, all disappeared, all gone, and with them, enormous sums of money given, generally, as “ Foreign Aid ”! Let’s be honest, if you know you will (not that you risk , but as a certainty , YOU WILL) be chased out of whatever situation you have created, or even killed, it is to be presumed that you have some form of contingency plan , for yourself-your family-your “friends” etc.. for afterwards!...
