It's the weekend, quiet, calm, typically English in Summer (that's the period that lasts roughly from 7-11 August) in that "green and pleasant land" At least the village fete doesn't last 8 days, as it does here...! A quiet, dignified game of cricket, on the village green, whilst the merry makers taste the sponge cakes and other local housewives specialities. And then - MURDER MOST FOUL.....and - for a change, this is an English village where "Miss Marple" does NOT live! The fete carries on, in spite of at least 3 murders - that's the average for each episode...! Number one got his head crushed by one of the church bells, and the blood dripped into the sanctuaary...... Number Two decided that she'd had enough of chasing the vicar who hadn't quite followed the required lessons at school, years ago, but then - it IS a Catholic church.... . Number Three got an arrow through his eye, just like Harold, and since he was on the Village...

This time around, I was amused to find that "Google" had attempted to translate what there was in French on my original "profile" - got it mixed up with the English, and boom! They also slid my "arrow" indicating where I live to the beautiful island of Corsica! Sometimes, when I'm asked where I live, I notice a slight air of "mis-belief" "Southern France", I say, and I can see the immediate effect- either this guy's got "brass" - "scudos"  or he's lying! Well, actually - neither! I live here - far from the madding crowd of Tourists, although the Meditteranean is only 10 miles away, or so, and Tourists, mainly lost, do pass through! Yes - I live in the South of France, but I have little to do with the typical tourist occupations! My life is more that of the typical pensioner who has to live SOMEWHERE, and park benches are quite all right, by me! And - yes, there are some traditions which are agreeable, because they're not only traditions, but can be seen day in, day out! On the other hand, I don't have the luxurious villa with at least 2 swimming pools, tennis courts, private golf course and so on....And - I don't want them either! They're for Tourists! Si...

I just had the experience of following a link to a thing on Facebook, called "Ask a Frenchman" - frankly, it would be better named - "Order a Frenchman"! I didn't really believe what I was reading. The simplest of questions (all of which seemed to remain unanswered as all the other questions) like what does "cc" mean in a flat rental advert, mainly posed by females who it seemed were already on the point of undressing to meet their "French lover", a photo of whom they had never seen. Most of them were from Australia, USA, and they wished to have closer personal contact with "Frenchman" who I don't personally believe to be Gallic (possibly Welsh Wales) going on the English used.
