Trials and tribulations

Certain things are sent to annoy us, and one of those things is Windows, but another is, without doubt "Linux"! I'm not sure, but I think a reasonable comparison would be the situation if God decided to change the rules, and said that as of now, everybody would be able to create their own weather, just as they wished! Well - that's not far from what Linux is all about! Supposedly free (but it's not) and supposedly "open source", it seems that just about every freak has jumped aboard and figured out something or other to annoy me with again-and it's a bitch! At least with Windows you can download and install what you want, may take some time, may take a few different try's, but you'll get there in the end! Linux....? No way! Well - it's beaten me, I'm having the thing partitioned - with Windows, so I've got SOMETHING that works, and MSI can go play with themselves! After all - it's nice to be able to think that at least ...

My secrets exposed to you......!

http://iwmpop.multiply.com/manage#_li_shared_music Attention please....... You're looking forward to those balmy evenings in the garden or on the terrace...? Only thing missing is some different music? Well - here you are, a few hours of it, in return for 5 minutes of your time - just enough time to open an account (free) at "MSN MULTIPLY" (which took over from the old "MSN Groups" a couple of years ago) - where you can go to the above link, plug in your speakers and install them on the terrace or balcony or garden, and off you go! In fact one of the most useful features of this programme is that you can listen to and download free of charge, the music other members put on their account. This choice of many tracks, all of a different nature, will give you an insight to where the alias "Mr le Marquis" came from! Years ago - sitting on balmy nights, in balmy gardens, with good music, wonderful food and wines, great dinner table chatter and wit...

Thanks to the little boats this could carry on taking place...  *************                    **************               ************ BUT....this became possible as well.... Can you see this guy in a little boat? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/world-war-2/7770365/Dunkirk-veterans-return-to-site-of-evacuation.html (or just click on the title - You'll find a Video on the page - thanks to the Telegraph...) The Dunkirk evacuation, dubbed Operation Dynamo, saw 338,000 troops rescued from the beaches of northern France between May 27 and June 4, 1940. It came after the speed of the German advance through the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France left nearly half a million British and French troops trapped there. The rescue was led by the Royal Navy, which drafted in ships and boat...

To change from the normal "Have a nice weekend" here is something new - stuff that drew myattention this week. Since I live in France - here are two French cars doing French things.... And how about a new screen saver for your pc? Gives you a work of art in the corner of the room.... ..and doesn't cost you a penny... Scottish sense! Signs must be obeyed...... but maybe not TOO literally....! And finally........ A photo from the Region (Camargue) Have a nice Weekend all the same...

Bald..? Wear a Turban...!

Image
Me.....Still looking for a turban - although FAR from bald.......!  At the moment, here in France, the Government-the people-in other words everybody-has only one theme - "THE VEIL" - the Moslem type one, which the French seemingly don't like, and a very touchy subject it is too! The law will probably be changed, banning the use of full veils by Moslim women, and it is a shame, because sometimes a veil can be  very, VERY useful...! Not only on the FRONT face, but elsewhere too - not always, of course! .........but OFTEN....! How about just doing it like the Sikhs did - in Britain, years ago? Crash helmets when riding motor bikes etc..? No - against our religion! OK - so how many more Sikhs were killed or maimed in accidents? Go ahead, wear your full veil, even when driving, and get maimed or killed, or maim and kill others - you might even get bonus points! And - as you are aware...... THE END........

Theoretically perfect but....

This one got away with it..... Cats, one says, have nine lives, and my experience of them is - By God - they need them! And this guy just thinks it's too funny! I think they're BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE.....! *********** Why Do Cats Climb Trees? A classic conundrum that features in many good Samaritan stories end with someone getting a cat out of a tree. But you may ask, why does a cat go up a tree in the first place? There are several reasons why cats climb trees, mostly to do with predatory or defensive tactics. Cats, as predators, like to understand their environment well. As they are small animals, their scope of vision... http://www.wisegeek.com/why-do-cats-climb-trees.htm?m

Remember the big scare....?

Image
Remember that big scare not so long ago...? Half of the planet's population was going down! No doubt, according to "WHO" (World Health Organisation). Misery, despair and the red death were awaiting! Well - as we now know, nothing of the sort. The only thing that has happened is that many rumours and some facts are slowly emerging, the facts regarding the cost of the action, and the rumours regarding certain members of "WHO" employees, who - it seems - had rather too close relationships with manufacturers and financiers of the so badly needed serum and equipment. Nothing seems to be centralised, one has to await individual figures from individual countries. Dark and murky deeds indeed! Are they scared of going the wrong way...? France - one knows roughly - has something in the area of 100,000,000 (100 million)euros worth of near obsolete serum and products. Germany has just come out with the sum of 250,000,000 (250 million) euros worth, and we are still...

Pictures with sound....!

Image
You know all about those things that bring pictures with sound into our living rooms, don't you. (Does YOUR Tele do this to you?) You know - the Tele! Do you watch a lot of it? Has it ever occurred to you that you may be going deaf...because of the Tele...? Well - just the other day I had a bit of a scare. No - the lady above didn't jump out, I discovered I must be going deaf! (woken up by the Ads) You've noticed, I'm sure, like many others, that you can't hear the dialogue during the film, so you turn up the volume - then come the ads, and they blast you out of your armchair! Well - this time it didn't happen- in fact I couldn't hear the thing, even with the sound turned up! Then I looked more closely at what they were advertising, and ....imagine - Hearing Aids were on the programme! Clever - huh?

France - then and now.

Image
(iwmpop-mr le marquis) I'm asked occasionally whether France is still all about the things "traditionally French" - you know, Pastis, Vin, Fromage, Frogs legs, snails and so on..... Well - the area I live in - Deep South, is probably even more so, due to the climate (normally) - sunny, warm, hot, not a lot of rain, but when it does rain - it hurtles down, normally short but extreme. After the rain, comes the sun, and thousands of people out in the fields, because collecting snails is best done after rain! So - to that extent, France is still as it was. Just a few pictures of France and elsewhere! On the other hand, gone are the days when the French mechanic in the old, run down, cobwebby garage would take a hammer (of differing sizes - depending on the seriousness of the problem) and attack your car's motor - generally with success! Nowadays, like every where else, they wheel out a portable computer, plug it in and get the problem immediately! Even finding o...
